If we take Sam Altman’s message at face-value, it seems Anthropic’s falling out with the Trump Administration wasn’t really about surveillance or autonomy. Instead, it seems to be mostly personality-driven. Dario is, among other things, fanatical about effective altruism and no fan of Trump or MAGA. I’m sure he could barely conceal his disdain in meetings at DoW, and likely, the outcome was driven more by negative reaction to Dario’s arrogance than the actual policy questions themselves.
